HOOKMAN is a surrealist slasher play written by in 2012 by Lauren Yee. The play deals with themes of grief and adolescence through the experiences of the protagonist, Lexi, as she deals with the death of her best friend, Jess, a victim of the titular HOOKMAN. One element that makes the play stand out is the repetition of Jess's death scene. The scene is repeated three times throughout the play, each one adding more and more context through more surreal takes on the event.
This book is a typographic telling of two iterations of this scene: the first and the last, with the goal of breaking down the story and retelling it in a visual medium.
